The annual orienteering charity event “BOC Life Rogaine Charity Race 2024” was successfully held on 28 January 2024. This year, the race and the carnival saw over 1,200 participants, with approximately 60% being young people under the age of 30. We were honoured to have Mr. Clarence Leung Wang Ching, BBS, JP, Under Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, as the guest of honour, along with the Award Council and other guests to attend the opening ceremony. We hope to encourage all participants, especially young people, to foster a positive and confident outlook by applying the problem-solving skills and never-give-up spirit learned during the race to their daily lives. In the after-race carnival, AYP arranged over 20 booths and workshops. 11 performance groups, including Beanies, our event ambassador, and different youth groups performed their talents on stage; and various meals available for the participants to replenish their energy, such as Lam Tsuen Rice Cake.
Supported by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, AYP held Mission S 2.0 from May to July 2023. It contained 3 main themes: Space, Sky and Star which aimed to inspire the youth interest of aerospace technology. The activities were related to space exploration, aerospace technology and engineering development which were fun and interactive. The activities included a visit to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for attending a space seminar, a tour to the restricted area of the Hong Kong International Airport and Lee Kum Kee, which had been selected as the sauces provider for the China Space Mission seven times in a row. Last but not least, there was a 2-day-1-night Aerospace Education Camp at the end of the programme. Participants who had completed all activities were awarded with an aerospace badge and certificate at the closing ceremony.
Sponsored by Swire Trust Tomorrow, under the “Oceans Tomorrow” project, co-organised by AYP and National Geographic Creative Works, “Postcards from Planet Possible: The Workshop” was successfully held. The aim was to let all participants have a better understanding of the Hong Kong marine ecosystem, and learn to cherish marine life and spread the messages of protecting our ocean. From September to December 2022, participants experienced an array of ocean purification and conservation activities, including field trips to restore the oyster reefs in Pak Lai, understanding the mangroves and recording the sound from the nature, creating rap music about marine conservation in a professional studio, drawing their insights towards ocean tomorrow in Apple Store with iPad, and attending the Towards A Sea Change: Mission Possible – a theatrical musical celebration performance.
