The Hong Kong Award for Young People (AYP) is a licensed member of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation. AYP targets youth from 14 to 24 years old to cultivate perseverance and the spirit of self-challenge through completing a set of unique international principles, so as to achieve whole person development.

The Award is:

  • Comprised of 3 Award Levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold Level.
  • Included with 4 Sections of activities: Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and Adventurous Journey, and Gold Level is required to complete Residential Project Section additionally.
  • An opportunity for participants to unleash potential and equip themselves for future development.
  • Coordinated with a non-formal education framework, which fills the gap that formal education could not offer to young people.

Steps to Attain the Award

Enquiry

AYP is about self-challenge and our programmes cover voluntary service and extra curricular activities. You should study the details before joining. Some Operating Authorities may have specific recruitment targets and you may choose the suitable one to join.

Enrolment

To begin your AYP journey, you should purchase a record book through an Operating Authority. All Award activities should be recorded on the record book for evaluation. Only activities undertaken after the enrollment will be counted. You will be asked to provide personal information during the enrollment. Should there be changes on the information, you should inform Operating Authority immediately for correspondences update.

Selection of Activities

You may choose your activities according to your abilities and interests and please refer to the guidelines in AYP Handbook. Except Adventurous Journey Section, you may plan your Award activities for assessment. You may choose the same activity for different levels (e.g. choosing Karate for both the Bronze and Silver Level) and improvement should be shown in the advanced level.

Approval of Activities

Scheduling Progressed Activities

You should keep progress of the activities as scheduled and keep contact with the assessors to evaluate the progress of and performance.

Record of Activities

You should keep record of the progress and details of the activities for assessors and Operating Authorities to review after completion.

Endorsement

Upon completion of the Award activities, you should ask your instructors and assessors to endorse on the record book to certify the progress and performance. Gold award participants shall meet the Section Panels to prove your activity record, where Section Panels will endorse for certification.

Attain the Award

Participant fulfilling the requirements for each Level will be awarded a certificate and a pin. Bronze Award Presentation will be organized by the Operating Authorities; Silver Award Presentation will be organized by the Award Office, and the Silver Awards will be presented by celebrities. Participants are required to complete the Notification of Attainment of Silver Award before the deadline of presentation ceremony (Some Operating Authorities may have special arrangements for their participants). Gold Awards will be presented by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Participants are required to complete the Notification of Attainment of Gold Award and hand in their record books before the deadline.

Participating in the Award Scheme can help young people to enrich the JUPAS Student Learning Profile (SLP) and show more achievements besides academic studies in the university interviews. Through different AYP activities, they can find their own strength among their peers and add value to interview performance.

Different activities, such as international exchange projects, camps and adventure training activities, have been organised by AYP in order to let young people jump out of their comfort zone.

Five Sections Highlights

Voluntary Work

AYP held “BronzeGain” Bronze Level activities during July 2023 to January 2024. For Service section, we arranged participants to join different voluntary services and bring warmth to the community.

Skill

AYP held “BronzeGain” Bronze Level activities during July 2023 to January 2024. For Skills section, We arranged instructor to teach participants baking skills and techniques.

Archery Course 2024-25

We organised an archery course from December 2024 to December 2025. This course tailored to offer a comprehensive and systematic learning experience for young individuals keen on archery. The programme covered not only archery postures, techniques, and safety protocols, but also included practical exercises and psychological training under the expert guidance of coaches to enhance accuracy and stability.

Dr. Irene Tang Gold Level Taiwan Adventurous Journey Training Course

In April 2025, AYP conducted its first Adventurous Journey in a mixed mode, combining hiking and biking challenges. After completing nearly six months of hiking and biking training, the participants finally headed to Taipei to begin a four-day assessment journey. It allowed participants to experience challenges while enjoying the rich landscapes and natural scenery.

Dr. Irene Tang AYP Yunnan Residential Project Programme 2024

Through a series of exploration and reflection, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the history and culture of Yunnan. During the 6-Day-5-Night Residential Project Programme, participants visited two Ethnic Minority living place, the Bai and the Naxi, to experience their culture; also, they visited the Eastern and Western Pagodas, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, and Yunnan Baiyao Group Co., Ltd. etc., to have a deeper understanding of the local tradition and business. Multiple unforgettable experiences have allowed participants to continually improve, becoming more mature and proactive.
